To test the slenod take a wire from the small wire comeing from the ig. switch You should have a test lite to find this Then run the wire from ig. wire to the heavy wire going to the starter . with key on Good luck

It's possible that the car jumped time. If it gets out of time, it can run hot. When the computer tries to understand the pulses from the timing sensors and they are not just right, it won't start back up. Check your cooling system and your timing. I'd bet you aren't getting any spark. Shoot some starting fluid into the intake to verify. If you don't hear it fire up or see any flames (haha) you don't have spark.

Let's address the overheating issue....

did you check the thermostat?
did you check your fluid levels?
any leaks on the hoses?

As for starting...
did you check if the batter is hooked to the right polarity?
check the cables and the distributor caps?
is your carbrurator flooded with fuel?
is your starter solinoid tested before you installed it? Use a current tester.
is there gas in the engine?
is your fuel pump working?
