To someone who asks stupid questions, even a moderately intelligent answer would sound very intelligent.

Perhaps those of us who ARE intelligent are trying to turn a light on in the stupid's brain. We are, in a sense, a teacher.

Well, generally the reasons for these responses made by the public are trifold:

(1) First, the composite mass of the sum of the human species is greater than sum of the stupidity of the minority.

(2) Second, the curious nature of mankind drives them to comprehend mysterious or unclear stimuli, resulting in rationalization and overintellectualization.

(3) Finally, regression to an earlier intellectual platform is not the more preferrable solution; thus, sustaining confidence in present intellectual capability supercedes.

Someone beat me to the punch...my first reaction was: There is no such thing as a stupid question. Anything that gets people talking and communicating is a good thing. Why do some people give rude, stupid answers to a really good (and serious) question? I have the answer...but I don't want to get too philosophical on you (cough).
