For me the jurys still out
When I come across that question or answer that decides it for me, I will let you all know.
Doesn't it always seem that mostly its the questions that are stupid and vice versa.

Overall people are neither smart nor stupid. people are curious. There is an old chinese saying that you will be able to find a master in every three persons.

You will not be able to know everything. Einstein

Ok now a question worth answering besides will we be around for the next hundred years or not. I must agree that the jusry is out for me as well. I see some intelligent, well thought out answers and I see some horrific ones too. I guess it is all just a mixture of opinion and fact. Some make sense and others don't, however, I think that overall people are smart in their own way. I mean really...we can only describe stupid, but so many ways!

I agree, I know how I answer questions...but I also know how I choose the questions that I answer (feel honored lol just kidding.) I've seen a lot of really "interesting" questions and I avoid them...I've answered quite a few questions though so in my personally opinion they aren't all bad...all depends on what night you come on here I suppose.

I really can't say if the people who ask stupid questions are really stupid but rather trying to get a rise out of someone and rattle a few chains. Overall I would have to say that people are by definition smart, one thing is clear though we have either a lot of free time or just plain old can't sleep. Boredom tends to lead to the really obscure and down right senseless questions but as I said I avoid them. I would rather help someone out rather than waste my time going off on someone because of something they said that was pointless. I don't like to give those sort of people the satisfaction that they've succeeded in making me angry.

Overall though my personal opinion, I'm gonna give the benefit of the doubt that people really aren't all that stupid it's just an act of boredom and the later it gets the worse the questions are.

I actually think it has helped me become more open to and aware of other people. I admit to getting disgusted with some seemingly illiterate, or low-life people, but it does give me an insight into how (if) they think.

On the other hand I really enjoy the sparring and give and take of some of the responders. It's great too, that Answers is multi-national. Don't like being called nasty names, but, I'm a big girl and have heard worse.

All in all, I learn a lot from this site

I hate to say this, I will probably get alot of hate mail over this. I would have to say the public at large, is irrational and dumb. After all the **** the government has fed the public these past last five years, and they still buy it. Fictional WMD's in Iraq before the war, and the weak terrorist links to justify the attack. No upper level government knowledge before 9/11, as was claimed but was false. The public allowing the government to bankrupt itself for a few tax cuts to the well off. The public is pathetically stupid.

I have seen answers on this site which provide incredible clarity and depth of knowledge. There are obviously some highly educated individuals on this site. However, about half of the people answer with limited (or no) justifications to the answers they have given. In those cases, the respondants rely too much on their own intellect, or simply on book knowledge, without any direct personal experience relating to the question which was originally posed.

I think the question makes or breaks whether or not answers are going to be smart or stupid.
if a question is meant to be a joke, then the people who try to answer in a smart way end up looking like idiots.
and if the question is a smart one, theres always a few morons who just like to drop the IQ in the answer pool.
there are no stupid questions. just stupid people.

I don't believe that people on this site are stupid. They may not seem too bright but, that's probably due to the lack of thought that goes into everything in society today. Solution: use that thing(s) behind your eyes (brain and/or ears) before you rattle off the dumbest thing ever.

OH...the latter, definitely!

It's mostly because lots of people don't really want to ask questions to increase their knowledge--they just want to know how many people agree with their (usually stupid and/or intolerant) preconceived notions!

And then lots of doofuses write just "anything" for two points. That's such a waste of time that it's BEYOND stupidity!

I love this site because smart people wouldn't be in here. They'd be reading a dictionary or finding a medical cure or something.
So I guess we're mostly immature, not stupid.
