I hear all the time people (teens usually) talking about how something is "ghetto" when they mean it is something they just threw together and is cheap (for example, "ghetto basketball" uses trash cans instead of baskets).
And since when did trafficking in women become admirable? ("Pimping"--it's all over the place, such as 3-6-9 Mafia's Oscar-winning song "It's Hard out here for a Pimp", as well as numerous references in rap/hip-hop). Teens proclaim themselves pimps--I don't get it.

Just so you know, I'm 17...it bugs the crap out of me when I hear people my age and younger talking about "pimping"...the example I gave of the "ghetto basketball" actually happened once. The boy who called it that had no idea what "ghetto" meant. I had to tell him.

It's true each generation has its own slang most of which won't be used later in life. I do think the American population is getting very sloppy in the way we talk. It's like we are too lazy to form complete sentences any more.

I believe that you are grouping all teens into a rather narrow group, I know many teens who are very eloquent and profound in their speech and writing, I do know where you are coming from, but I believe someone had to influence these teens to act in such a way.

Every generation has their own slang. This is just the current generations turn. I agree some of it is rather inappropriate. But, think back. Adults probably thought the same about us at the time.

I hope they are just not aware of the fact that the words they use mark them as the type of person and type of people they come from.
