Have you considered the fact that it might not be your hamster? Have the vet check your hamster to be sure but....

Many times pet food is contaminated with fly larva. You don't know this until you see the "worms". Anytime you buy new food, you should place it in your freezer for 24 hours. This will kill any larva and render it harmless. Meanwhile, clean the cage thoroughly with hot water. Throw out that food...buy new and be sure to freeze it for 24 hours first.

I have to do this with our gerbil and bird food.

A vet appointment is in order. Just to make sure if it is a worm, what type it is, and what kind of medicine is safe to use. Don't buy ANY medications at any other place but the vet's office. There's probably a reason why they're not selling through the local vet's office.

they're some style of insect in larval level. they'd be pantry moth larvae which devour grain. There would were eggs on the hamster nutrients, as puppy shops are often infested with pantry moths. i'd throw out something else of the nutrients and purchase extra, fantastically if there are larvae contained in the bag or white internet-like fibers. Or they'd be fly larvae. once you've nutrients garbage on your trash can or round your room, flies would have laid eggs on it. make optimistic you save your room and the hamster cage sparkling! i do not imagine the hamster will fall unwell from the nutrients it already ate, yet when I were you i does no longer proceed feeding that nutrients.

I know it's expensive, but you really should take your hamster to a vet. It's important to have the worm(s) removed as quickly and as painlessly as possible, right?

Find a safe dewomer for hamsters.Make sure the label says safe for hamsters or small animals, using the wrong kind could harm your pet.

take it to a vet, they will know what kind and what strength of dewormer to use. It can be really harmful to their liver (among other things) to use too strong of a dewormer. Also, if you use some sort of generic dewormer it might just not work. Better to take it to the vet, it shouldn't cost very much and most dewormers you just put in their food.

Only your vet can help you with this. You could check petco for over the counter stuff, but most of it is for dogs or cats. You will need guidance for what to do for such a small animal. Good luck.

You should really take it to the vet if it's got worms. They give you medication for that.
