To begin with, what do you mean with American, it is a large continent to begin with or do you mean the Indians? Our president tells sometimes that he is the president of America; he is certainly NOT, but in USA.
If you mean USA, it must have something about the lack of education like languages, most Europeans speak at least two or three languages and some people several languages. To be able to speak, read and write a language, means that you can take a step into another culture and understand the people and share their ideas et cetera. To learn a language takes some efforts and one have to be patient, it takes time. Why are there so many Hilly Bills in USA compared to Europe? Were does Ricke Lake find those fools that one can see in her programs. When we blame the Muslims for what happened in the world right now, we should blame ourselves as we have been a part of that and still is. It might have started with the slave import to USA, but we our self had freed ourselves from being rule by British. This mentality that we are the superior, we do rule the world seems to me be a great mistake in the long run. We are powerful; our war machine is the most powerful in the world et cetera. And at the same time some of our people is starving, can’t read and write, meanwhile, we are saving the peace and ruin our country economical; meanwhile other countries are building up their education system to a grand level and develop their countries and I am now thinking of India, China and Russia. The result will be that we will come out as a Banana republic, with a poor economy, false elections and all that which is significant for a country on its way down and into dictatorship. Have mercy upon my English I am not English-speaking from the very beginning, but it is one of the six languages I do understand.

Americans that have had the opportunity to meet with people from other countries and have had the chance to discuss and learn about their cultures normally gain an better understanding of alternative cultures. Of course the same question can be asked of people from other countries that never take the time to meet and learn about Americans.I now that my 18 months in the middle east increased my appreciated and understanding of the Muslim and Arab culture.

I don't think you can just generalize "Americans" in this question. There are plenty of people living in the USA who have no understanding, appreciation, or even interest in any other culture. In fact, I know of plenty of Americans who are hostile to other cultures for no good reason. (Does anyone else out there remember "Freedom Fries"?)
At the same time, there are lots of Americans who are facinated by other cultures and take the time to try to understand them in a given circumstance. In my experience, these people are usually pretty well educated or have family who taught them good values and the Golden Rule.

Then we invaded Iran, what a transformation. I had dinner in a Greek eating place and used lots international kin whilst i advance into asked if i theory it advance into good for my President to invade a rustic? next I went to France and a cafe does not settle for a US mastercard. regrettably, i've got no longer felt secure to pass everywhere for the final 5 years. the international is so exciting, I also have a visit planned for February.
