Why all of the sudden is everything gay? Are 12 and 13 year olds OBSESSED with the word gay? Your gay, Thats gay, This is gay, Your being gay....Every day all day long...and then I come on Yahoo and some kid is calling adults gay....Im confused...I dont remember calling anything gay...wow times have really changed

It's not jsut 12-13 year-olds. 20 year-olds are using this slang too. They think that it makes them sound cool, but it just makes them sound ignorant.

The term has become so overused its now being used basically as a slang for something unfavorable or that the user dislikes, and one saying the does not necessarily intend to be implying that another thing is homosexual. I try not to use it, but every now and then it slips out, just part of my environment that I have grown up in (public school).
I guess it is just some association with the term 'gay' being seen in such negative way.

You got me. My sons do the same thing 11 & 7 yrs.
I have been trying to get them to stop and for the most part they have UNTIL sons friend comes over. Then it all starts again!!! LOL
What I have been telling them, If you don't know the meaning of the word you are saying. Then you can't say it!

So true! I totally agree! I am 36 yrs old and when I was that age I couldn't say stupid bcuz it was a bad word! TIMES HAVE CHANGED!

gay used to mean happy so people diddnt say it like we do now my dad said that wehn he was a kid people siad cherry and whichj is just a friut now doesnt mean cool anymore

ya I used to do it too.. but I felt really bad and decided to stop... but my new thing is retarded(meaning stupid) which I think is even worse... so once I break a bad habit, I have another one to replace it. Im trying to stop though. and I dont think its right for people to do that. it really bothers me that I used to say it and that practically everyone I know still does.

kids from my hometown have been using that slang for almost as long as i can remember. many of those *kids* are well into their 30s now and still say it.
