its not just a regional thing. racism and intolerance exists everywhere and the north is just as bad as the south. the root cause is really a human flaw more than anything. humans that are somehow weak in character like to lift themselves up by degrading others, therefore exposing their own inner weakness. the process of life is supposed to allow you to gradually evolve into a better person. maslow called this the theory of SELF ACTUALIZATION!! where you eventually become the best person you can ! unfortunately some never make it out of the first stage and therefore never evolve much beyond where our caveman ancestors where 100000 years ago!!!!!!

As a Republican in the South, I have never used that word, because I find it offensive and degrading to other people. I also feel that those who do use that word are doing nothing but advertising their own hatred and ignorance.

I'm in the south & can't remember the last time I heard that word out of a southerner. The last time I did hear that word was out of a guy from California who is no longer allowed in the house!
BTW, I'm a republican.

So you were at the Republican convention and you overheard large groups of people who were wearing republican name tags saying this offensive word . Am I right? I think low brow people of all walks of life say stupid demeaning things about other people when they are with their peers. Take out Republicans and interject Baptists or try Ballerinas, in other words what have you got against Republicans?

Political affiliation has nothing to do with ignorance and racism. But most of them are just good ole' rednecks. Too ignorant to understand that not all white people are the same.

Why are Democrats so quick to say "*****" around other Democrats, in order to sound "street" while living in Beverly Hills?

it's just rooted in the culture. it's hard to change tradition that has been going on for a long time.
