If you don't get pregnant the day you ovulate, it's too late. The egg only lives for a few hours (*maybe* up to a full day).
However, since sperm can live in the female body for up to 3-5 days if conditions are right, you can get pregnant on the day you ovulated as a result of sex several days earlier. Once you know you have ovulated, it's almost certainly *too late* to get pregnant. You may have ovulated several hours ago (and the egg already died), or you may have just ovulated, and by the time the sperm reach the egg (which also takes several hours), it will probably have died. You need to have sex *before* ovulation.
Please read _Taking Charge of Your Fertility_ by Toni Weschler. It will explain exactly how your body works so that you can figure out the best timing for sex to get pregnant. It is much more accurate (and uses correct terminology, too) than any other method.

well there are ovualtion kits you can try im doing them now and they are great !!! you buy them at the drug store or any shop that sells pregnancy stuff... you buy an ovulation kit for 5 days it comes with 5 peeing cups and 5 tests you do one test a day for 5 days at the same time every day.... it sort of looks like a pregnancy test but for ovualtion.... it comes up positive when you are at your highest and that means you are going to ovulate in 24 - 36 hours so you have sex on the day you get a positive and the day after....its worked for alot of women thats just an easier thing to try so that when you know you are most fertile you can plan a romantic evening and just enjoy the night instead of worrying the WHOLE month about making sure that you and your husband had sex on certain days so goodluck and for the future CONGRATS

Sperm can live inside you for 3-5 days, but once you ovulate the egg is only fertile for about 24 hours.

You usually have about 48 hours from ovulation. After that the egg starts to degrade. Take your basal temp every morning and you'll be able to tell when you're about to ovulate and then go at it for a couple days. Good luck!

If you had a regular menses, you try to calculate 14-15days after day 1 on your menses start. That time is your prime time for ovulation. This method seem to work for me and most of my friends. Check this website http://www.ovulation-calendar.com/

Sperm can live up to 6 days and you are fertile leading up to ovulation.
Go to http://www.mymonthlycycles.com and put in your period info and it will calculate when you will be fertile and ovulating.
Good luck
