Ed Gein lived in my mother's hometown and was arrested when she was in grade school. Her mother use to threaten to take her to his house whenever she was bad. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Silence of the Lambs and Psycho all use events of his life in their stories.
Blair Witch Project was set up to appear to be factual but wasn't. It just helped with the hype.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was true because a couple of the "cananabolistic" famly members were caught. The Blair witch project was actually a couple of directors who were trying to spook out the kids while filming a documentry!

Texas Chain Saw Masacre is a myth, and per Wikepedia:
"...the film does not depict factual events, but instead was (like the films Psycho and The Silence of the Lambs) loosely inspired by Ed Gein, who, while he did wear human skin, acted alone and did not use a chainsaw..."
Blair Witch was also entirely fictional, but was a brilliant marketing ploy by the makers of the film!!! Even the Blair Witch Legend is completely ficticious.

the chainsaw mass. was based on the true story of a man named gein, in the midwest. he would dig up courpes and killed a few ppl, making lampshades & other wall hangings out of their skin. kidnapped a woman from tow, hung her up in the barn, cut off her head & sliced her open , as if he were guttin adeer. silence of the lambs was also loosely based on this man, who i blieved diesd in the early 60s. not sure bout the other.
