"The United Kingdom" refers to the four countries under the rule of the British monarch: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The full title of the sovereign state is "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland"

The United Kingdom, abbreviated to 'The UK', is commonly referred to as Great Britain, but Great Britain is only composed of England, Scotland and Wales. Northern Ireland does not come under the banner of Great Britain. The Republic of Ireland, which is different to and separate from Northern Ireland, is not part of Great Britain or the United Kingdom.

England is one of the constituent countries of the United Kingdom and Great Britain.
