yes it happens to much to me. I have at times answered with the best of thought and the thoughtless was picked as best

No, I never think of mine as the best answer. I answer to the best of my knowledge. If I am picked as best answer, that's great. If I am not, I sure don't lose sleep over it.
When I am voting I read all the answers even if I had answered the question, I do find answers that are better than mine and I vote that answer as the best.
When I rate the best answers, I'll read all the answers on that question before I rate. If I see an answer that was better, I will give a thumb's down. If not, then I rate a thumb's up.

All the time.
The problem is the person knew any better, they wouldn't be asking the question, and that is the weak point.
I've answered some computer questions that I have answered from experience, and I know is right, and some idiot comes along, posts a stupid answer, and get the points.

Every answer I give is the most clever, but the asker's are too dense to pick it as best. I hate being so superior.

That's a good question! Are there points for best questions?!? =)
But to answer your question, I haven't thought that. I have seen other people's answers that got picked as best answer even though I thought another answer deserved to be picked.

Yes. I know what you are talking about. You put all this effort into helping someone and either they or someone else picks a silly response as the best one. Thefore, by picking my answer as the best you will make both of us happy.

Yeah, all the time, frustrating isn't it! I mean you take the time to read to question, the other answers and you know yours is the best one, but some idiotic answer is chosen! I know the feeling!

LOL no, to the first question, yes to the second. but it's the askers choice too. you have to respect that much. also for all we know the person they chose as the best answer may be someone they know. or it could be that your answer is to complex for them to comprehend. they relate to the one they chose. could be.

No, but I've been the "lame answer" and got picked as best.
Strange, huh.

i never bother to see if it gets picked. i just want to give an honest opinion. but i do wonder why some people just answer questions carelessly just to get the points. it is beating the intention.

No, every time I get a best answer, I am always, like really, best answer for that one.
