I'm fifteen (and a half).

1. Blue Velvet (1986): David Lynch's hallucinogenic mystery-thriller probes beneath the cheerful surface of suburban America to discover sadomasochistic violence, corruption, drug abuse, crime and perversion.

2. Goodfellas (1990): Martin Scorsese's gritty and kinetic exploration of the life of organized crime is used as a highly unusual but very clear moral fable, and was shot and edited with an incredible and propulsive sense of rhythm.

3. Dekalog (1988): Krzysztof Kieslowski's ambitious ten-part series (produced for Polish television) which focuses on moral and ethical quandaries inspired by the Ten Commandments.

4. Pulp Fiction (1994): Quentin Tarantino's update on the hard-broiled crime drama incorporates experimental and fragmented story-telling structures, an endless amount of philosophical dialogue packed with pop culture references, and influences that range from spaghetti westerns, Hong Kong action flicks, samurai films, film noirs and American gangster movies.

5. Nema-ye Nazdik (1989): Abbas Kiarostami's unique and highly unconventional film, which borders somewhere between a documentary and a reenactment, is one of the most original and interesting recent films that I've seen, and it gives a rare and fascinating look inside the typical post-revolution Iranian court system.
