Body guards, staffed offices, pensions, medical care...is there one of them who hasn't earned enough money from books, lectures and speaking engagements that would warrant the millions of dollars spent on them each year. These men are all very capable of looking after themselves. They are FORMER Presidents of the United States. Give us a break already.

What about all those US legislators who are no longer in office for what ever reason? Look at what we (you and I) spend on their retirement plan.

As former presidents, the amount of knowledge they currently possess about the affairs of the world and the workings of our government are still only second to the current president.

If a terrorist group got hold of a former president, which they would definitely attempt if they had no protection, they would hold him and torture him until he divulged something... and anything divulged by a president, especially the amount extracted by highly skilled "interrogators" could potentially harm U.S. citizens.
Or what if someone here at home had a bone to pick with him-- didn't like his policy or what have you--on the street, Bill Clinton can't scrap... He'd get his @$$ beat and it would be all over the news.
Let's say after Bush is out of office, secret service were to leave... he'd come back home to TX and hang out for a while. Out walking in Austin or something' and some Mexican guy walks up with 5 or 9 dudes, "que paso, ese, your house bill sent my girlfriend home, and now she can't get back to help raise our child."
Bush would panic and try to talk politics--(which is defined as looking out for one's own best interests)-- and before he could say urban sprawl, he'd be in the alley, having a nice long face-to-face chat with the bricks in some substandard housing.

Forget about THAT money.

The real question is why are millions of dollars being spent on diapers that get cold when you pee in 'em while millions of people are cold and hungry...
??? ??? ??? ???
