Therapy isn't about doing exactly what the doctor dictates -- if you are doing therapy they can give you counsel, advice, suggestions -- they can mirror back for you how they interpret your behavior, your actions - what might cause it -- they can make recommendations, but unless you are under a court order, they can't control what you do with the informatin they provide. You may feel as though you can't talk to your shrink, but believe me, you won't be the first nor the last of someone who took those wise words and did th eexact opposite. Challenge yourself to inch out of that comfort zone and be real with him. In doing so, you'll find that your therapy will take on a more meaningful depth, and you will find you know yourself better. (If it's about medicine though -- you gotta listen to the shrinks about that, cuz that can mess you up otherwise.) Good luck!

I agree with everyone and am in school to be a "shrink". Unless there is something about him that makes you uncomfortable, which is ok, you should let him know what happened. Please, if everyone listened to the "right" advice all the time, we'd have a great society, and he knows this! Ignore that Jennifer on here about not understanding you, that was just a rude, unnecessary remark from someone who obviously had no intention of helping...:D Keep us posted on how it goes.

A 'shrink' is not there to judge you. They are there to help you with anything you are having a problem with. Since you are apparently having a problem, you need to talk to him about it, regardless whether you did what he told you to or not. Either way, he will still guide you in the best way he knows how. Just trust him! He knows a thing or two about what he's talking about :-) Good luck, and I hope things get better!

Let go of your pride and speak the truth. Your 'shrink' is there to help, he is not someone to hide something from.

Are you seeing him for help, or are you scared of him. If he is a good cousenler then he is not going to be mad at you, he is going to do exactly what you are asking for, help!
