What the hell is CTC?

Question

I received one mail asking for my resume in which they are asking for
Current CTC
Expected CTC
Notice Period.

What is CTC? Who invented such a stupid term.
I would have called it "Take Home Pay" (THP) or Current Emoluments.

Cost to Company looks like a wrongly chosen term used by recruiters to denote "what are you currently getting from your company", It should be called as "Current Pay Packet including perks", nobody understands what is CTC unless told.

"CTC is cost to company. It is what the company spends on you which includes x and y."
->What makes a recruiter think I would disclose all monetary details at the time of sending the resume? By calling CTC as "cost to company" the company is viewing the employee as a "cost" to be borne not as a "benefit" so why must I view the company to "work for" as opposed to "sell myself to the company for which company pays "cost"?

CTC is cost to company. It is what the company spends on you which includes PF contribution by company, House rent allowance, Conveyance, Group insurance, Super annuation benefit, Medical benefits if any, plus the usual basic salary, dearness alowance et al. CTC also includes subsidised loan facilities, canteen facilities, residential phone etc. Take home pay is what actually comes into your bank account after all deductions.

Be careful as the CTC may look big but take home pay may be meagre.

CTC stands for Cost to Company. "Take Home Pay " is what you get after deductions of all sorts (PF, income Tax, other statutory deductions, etc.).
CTC includes all the perks that a company provides you (e.g. CTC will include transportation benefits; meal vouchers, etc.). generally CTC would be greater than Take Home Pay.
