San Francisco is the only one, out of these three places, that doesn't have blistering heat this time of year! It's a beautiful place with lots to do and amazing food!
I've never been the Grand Canyon, but I've been to Arizona in August, and it's miserable!
Las Vegas is the worst place I've ever been, period. It's very, very hot there, especially in the summer. And it's very hard to have a good time there. The place is packed to the seams with people. It's noisy and dirty and obnoxious. I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for romance!
If you're looking for the same style as Vegas, with much better weather and a better atmosphere, I'd come to Reno. It's also fairly close to you and it's beautiful. The mountains are marvelous and Lake Tahoe is unsurpassed, especially this time of year. You will have a wonderful time!

San Franciso, San Francisco, San Francisco!!! Grand Canyon will be about 120 degress and Vegas will be about 110. Where as in San Francisco, you might even get a chill! BUT more than that, SF is very romantic, the cable cars, the fog rolling in, breakfast at the Buena Vista (best Irish coffee in America) across from Fishermans Wharf, go to the Fairmont, the Mark Hopkins just to see what hotels should be like. Then you can go over the Golden Gate and see Sausalito, very artsy and cool, and if you really want to make a vacation out of it take another couple days and go up through Sonoma Stay in Calistoga and come back through Napa and see all of the best winery's CA has! The Grand Canyon? Las Vegas? NO way!!! PS I live in San Diego and think that's the coolest, (if it had been a choice I would have said that!) & also have home in Vegas for "retirement" have been to Grand Canyon several times... San Francisco is the answer....

I love Las Vegas so much I'm buying a home there .The city is always alive .Food cheap . entertainment all over , much to see that is Free ! Summer days can be a dry hot but the evenings are perfect ! You can find hotel deals on the Internet . And the strip has so many casinos with air conditioning , who knows how hot it is ,outside . The only thing I really don't care for is the people that hand out cards for sexy phone calls ?#%^@ . But your not forced to take them , so walk pass and enjoy the laser shows Free and the ship show Free and the drinking if your gambling Free .If you stay together ( as the strip is large ) you'll have many pictures to take and a great time ! Grand Canyon nice but nothing compared to Las Vegas But Grand Canyon is beautiful at sunset San Fransisco ,a lot to do but I thought hotter and still Las Vegas has about 7000 people a day coming and going for reasons to vacation there .Have a great time !

Obviously Las Vegas would be very hot. Grand Canyon, I've never been but would recommend because the alternative, San Francisco, I didn't enjoy. The tourist area by the bay "The Wharf" and accompanying Alcatraz were wonderful. However, the city itself was a little sketchy. You walk one block into the tenderloin and you will leave as fast as you came. The homeless population is horrendous and the weather is unpredictable at best. So, the only place that I haven't been, but do recommend because of what I have heard is the Grand Canyon. Best wishes to you and yours.

If it were me I would probably pick Vegas since it offers great accomodations, shows, great restaurants, shopping, sight seeing, etc. It will be fun for you and your wife and it will also be fun for your friends too.
Get a nice room on the strip and your vacation will be effortless. You have everything right within walking distance. If you are willing to drive you also have hoover dam nearby and shopping throughout vegas too.
The grand canyon is going to be quite hot in august - I wouldn't recommend going in the summer at all. As for San Fran - I'm not a big fan of it - it's very pricey to stay there and I really didn't think there was all that much to do - but seeing the bridge, alcatraz, and the wharf are great.

We've been to LV in August and it is really hot still in 100+ but at night it is ok. It is definitely worth the trip, plus you'll probably be more inside than outside anyway i'm assuming. if you decide to go there, i can give you some good places to go
Used to live in SF and its not too hot its actually pretty decent and can get windy, but be on the lookout for rain.
Not too sure about the GC. But wherever you go have fun! happy anniversary!
