well 1st of all what r u needing, If you are wanting to reset it as you call it, that means ur going to slick the hard drive and erase the entire thing and re-load any software that came with it, then this can clear up any issues as long as the hard drive is not bad. cleaning it buy a can of compressed air and take the casing off and blow out any dust-bunnies in it and close it back up, make sure you are in open air space, some compressed air is bad for you and needs good ventilation

As an instructor of beginning students 'to reset' would mean that someone told you to clean the computer meaning to 'defrag'and remove all temporary files. These are 2 differnent processes and yes you should. As you use a computer over time files will become more and more fragmented. The START - ALL PROGRAMS - ACCESSORIES - SYSTEM TOOLS- DEFRAG FILES. Read carefully the screens and let your system tell you what to do. Sometimes just cause someone said to clean your system doesn't always mean you have too. Generally you should only have to Defrag for normal use 1 a month.
As to the temp files. There are many folders now being used by MS operations and they should be 'emptied' again based on the frequency of your useage of the computer. If you are busy ALL the time (daily) once a week might be good. Most can be cleaned using START - ALL PROGRAMS - ACCESSORIES - SYSTEM TOOLS - Disk cleanup. There are other but a newbee should not attempt this without more knowledge of the files system..
