the spirit of idealism? Have we passed that point in history? But history repeats itself... When will the next wave of visionaries come? Or did it already come and was the spirit finally and truly exstinguished by the death of Cobain? I know this is too serious, but I really do ponder this alot, mostly I just wish I know someone like Kerouac.

There seems to be waves in history. Sometimes you get idealists, sometimes you get pragmatists. Seems like we're due for some more idealists. Of course, old hippies didn't necessarily die. They're just (I hate to say it) old. Or at least middle aged. Hard to say "Don't trust anyone over 30" when you are past 50. I think the kids who are now approaching adulthood are a more idealistic bunch, different from the Gen Y types. I imagine they will find their own way to express this idealism, not with love beads or beat poetry, but with new forms. Keep an eye out.

It is very sad. Most of my contemporaries have forgotten how we felt in the late 60's and early 70's. We have gotten bogged down in mortgages, college educations for our children, making a living, and all the other adult stuff. I sometimes think I am the only one that remembers what it was like to be a long haired hippie type pinko fag (Thank you Charlie Daniels). I try hard to retain my sense of idealism and wonder on a daily basis. Thank you for letting me know that we have not been forgotten.

Were still here, just not dropping acid on the beach, or searching out the next concert......too old for that manure. I don't think it was Cobain. More like Manson and Viet Nam.
