For example, I do look like a rocker chick (35) I am constantly being told I look like a party girl. Yeah I like the occasional drink, but I do not smoke pot or do any drugs. The only thing i smoke is cigarettes. I am lucky to go out once every couple of months. Why do you think our society is so quick to make assumptions about others?

yep. some of there assumptions are right about me. which comes in handy when i need good "party and smoking" friends. but some are off the wall. i still have an appreciation for things and music that are beautiful and i have absolutely no morals. so, i don't know what they say or assume. i don't care, let them talk and get caught up. there's no way anyone could know everything about me in a five second glance, so i don't care. i value few people's opinions and even only sometimes.
AND MAY I RESPOND ASSUMTIONS MAY BE OUR NATURE, BUT WE'RE NOT CHILDREN SO WE SHOULD KNOW AND PUT INTO ACTION THAT IF IT LOOKS LIKE A DUCK IT COULD BE A DOG ON A BAD DAY.

I have the same problem! I drove a school bus and was drug tested and Alcohol tested 6 times in 3 months. They said it was random but I say astronomical 6 X's in 3 months. We can't help it if were hot, keep our selves up and everyone loves us. "People are jealous for you to get so much attention so they assume it has to be drugs." Do what I did, If your really tired of it change your hair. I went to my natural,w/Highlights, Straight shag with the Prissie look now I'm a SNOB! so not cool....and still get the attention. If their talking about you, their giving someone else a brake!

The way you described yourself I would assume the same thing, you said it yourself.
We all try to look for patterns in our everyday life. You are presumed to look like a rocker/party chick, but you're not. So let me ask you. Have you done anything to change that look?
There is this male friend of mine he assumes I am a tough chick who will fight someone if need be. This is so unlike me. I'm a lover not a fighter,, but he assumes this because I will stand up for myself, and no I have never had to go to blows over it, my friend just assumes it.
I wish more people took the time to get to know one another it would cut down on a lot of hurt feelings.

People make assumptions because it is in their nature. They always think they are smart enough to put 2 and 2 together

They have been deceived in one way or another in their life by someone, and that tends 2 stay with u, everyone does it, but they might not even realize it.

You must look the part...hair, makeup, clothes. If you don't like the assumption, change your look. If you like your look, don't worry about it because they're seeing what you want them to see.
