The same as a keyed chuck except the chuck tightening system is geared so that hand tightening is adequate...

remember though that key-less chuck drills are only meant for light to medium work... if you need a heavy duty drill it will come with a keyed chuck so that the bit can be tightened down for the additional load...

chucks before had a small key that had what looked like a small gear on the end of it. problem was that it either got lost or the teeth on the gear stripped very easily. keyless chucks did away with those and now you just use your hands to tighten it instead of fumbling around for a key. They also came in different sizes too so that presented a whole other set of problems.

That means you tighten it by hand and not withe the little key that it usually brings. its especially hard when you lose the key. keyless drills are good.

You hold the chuck tightly in your hand to loosen the bit grip.
