Depends on the type of molly.. commonly the anal fin on a female will be shaped much like a fan. On a male it will be thin and pointed. This is the surest way to tell on livebearers,

A molly is a livebearer fish. The male livebearer has a thing called a godapidium (not sure about the spelling) is it a long fin like thing on the bottom of his body. A female has nothing but a hole under her body

The males have like a tube for an anal fin, the female is more rounded around the belly area, and the males are steamline

to use every-day words, the male has a sword-like projection under it's body which is the gonopodium or you might say it looks like a "stick" this is a male and is how you tell ALL live-bearing males--it is absent in the females--hope you can understand this way of explaining it--my customers did lol

the male's anal fin (the last fin under the belly, before the tail) is long and pointed while the female's is a short triangle shape. you'll have to wait until they display their fins because sometimes they'll keep their fins close to their body and you won't be able to tell.

I Find this sexes but males are more full with color than the females. it has to do with mating rituals.

I agree with Nanette. The anal fin is on the bottom, closest to their tail fin. (just in case you didn't know)
