Horizontal stripes make you appear wider. A solid color would be a better choice if looking skinnier is a priority.

I actually just read in Cosmo that "thin vertical stripes draw the eye up and down, so the person wearing them comes off as tall and slimmer." Horizontal stripes draw a persons' eyes from side to side. So I guess it's not a matter of they make you look, but would you rather eyes looking you up and down or side to side?

Yikes! Horizontal stripes go from side to side and make you look wider. Vertical stripes go up and down and can make you look thinner. Otherwise, I'd go for a solid, DARK color. If you have more choices, get one with stripes that go diagonal. Those are even better.

go with the solid. horizontal stripes make you look bigger and if you already have a big butt or a big bust, the horizontal stripes won't help. try to play with strategic prints and styles. there's a bikini for every body type.

horizontal stripes always make you look wider, if you are looking for a busty look use a horizontal striped top and dark plain bottom. go to one of the bathing suit shops that sell the tops and bottoms seperate to mix and match the print and plain and so on.

solid. Horizontal lines widen, vertical lines lengthen, solid is good. The darker, the skinnier, the lighter the bigger. I learned that in Modelling school.

easily the way horizontal stripes wrap around your waist, they actually make you seem wider than you rather are. Vertical stripes, or no stripes in any respect are the thank you to circulate.

Solid won't make any difference in appearance.
Horizontal line on any apparel would make a persn look 'wider', thus makes a person look 'fatter'.
Vertical lines are most recommended to look slimmer anywhere, anytime.

Vertical lines make you look slimmer; and sometimes taller.
Although, browns, blacks, and navy are also nice and easy way to deal with the bathing suit issue if your not the anorexic kinda person.
But, they also say us shapely women don't "have to" stick to the solids sometimes and be real careful with this one patterns and prints are often very attractive with a sarong. Patterns and prints are a good thing! I bought my first this year....complements!
