There seems to be alot of people here who think we atheist all think alike, i know we Atheist have in common that God doesn't exist but i am curious to know in what other areas we think alike. For example, i believe that there is other intelligent life forms in this infinite universe besides us, not neccesary the green little monsters in flying saucer but other life besides us, yes. I also believe that yes the big bang did happen but that before the big bang there was nothing? No, i believe that the universe always existed in some way or another. Also i've noticed that evolution is happening in some ways but that we ourselves are moving backwards in evolution and i think it s due to technology and we are becoming lazier for it. And finally of course, i believe that after we die, we cease to exist. With that being said, what do Atheist here on yahoo agree or disagree with me on and explain. Feel free to express your opinions on what else you think about.

now Chris J was that really necessary? I did not go on here bashing others for thinking a certain way. The only way we will know what happens after we did, is when we die. In the meantime i am entitled to my thoughts without being said i'm wrong or stupid because i think this way. I respect other people's opinions, try to respect mine as well.

ahh, well, not really a higher power, just a unifing spirit between all people, and yes, other life forms spread out in this vast universe of ours. and yes, the whole ceasing to exist after death, but i have to believe that humans are still evolving, just not as rapidly anymore as the same rules of "survival of the fittest" don't really apply anymore since we can save even the weak ones.

THIS IS DEEP.
1. There is def. something out there that may be as smart or smarter than us. The universe is too big to be inhabited by us. It's only a matter of time.
2. as for the big bang theory, sure it could be possible but it's hard to believe that the universe, given the size, was tightly packed into a ball.
3. I've often wondered about this topic. Evolution is really tricky. I mean, I have some suggestions like human beings know too much, and that we're so far into our materialistic things to realize that we are a virus. However, I often wondered why humans were the only "animals" to evolve and develop an actual thought process. I mean, take the dinos for exmple, they have been on this earth almost 100 times longer than we have yet they were still primative and didn't develop intelligence.
I didin't mean to further complicate your already complicated question. I hope i answered something ...

Hi JessiYari

I'm concerned that if you're an atheist you're talking in the language of "belief". Don't believe, find out. Know, or think, instead. :o)

I think there is other life out there, based on probability analysis. It is more likely that there is, than that there is not.

I am convinced of the accuracy of big bang theory. I've studied it extensively and the evidence is overwhelming. People who argue otherwise simply do not understand the theory and its evidentiary support.

I am unconvinced about a connection from this universe to any previous state because the most likely modelling at this stage suggests a causal discontinuity between out own big bang and any previous state. This is a consequence of our space-time being a product of the big bang rather than a pre-existing manifold.

I don't think you can talk about humans evolving "backwards". Evolution is simply change, it isn't "directed".

Hope this helps!
The Chicken

Wow!! I can't say I am a true Atheist...I do belive their is something greater than us...but what I can not tell you. I do agree with every thing else you said...other than the evolution...I think that we are at a stand still I think that some day we will be taken out...but by our own creation..ie technology. Weird...the world is all of the sudden getting smaller. Such a great thinker you are.

Athiests are not aliens, Athiesm comes into play when your mental ability is lil more logical and intriguing than the rest without fearing for the outcomes.

Naturally that Quality of fearless ness, and inspection will make All Atheists fall into related group. They are people who love freedom. and believe in scientific advancement for the benefit of all human beings without any difference.

The power people above are discussing of is called Nature, which optimises the life to make us much more efficient. Life evolved as a better machine because Nature taught and learned by experimenting not by intervention of any super power, for sure.

We are social animals, with affection and feelings for fellow beings so we created a life after death just to feel the presence of dear ones in a life extended to our life, imagining them happy .

I believe ultimate reason why we are athiests is WE are FEARLESS.

Well I disagree in the existence of the universe in all time. I think the idea of "infinite time" of universe can be as difficult to asimilate as "creation of the universe".
Evolution...i think it's a tale story (as they taught it to us in high school), nowadays there are more refined theory about it. Personally, i think entropy could be more precise than evolution.
And I agree in the other topis.

Cease to exist? That sounds so hopeless. Just because I can't see your brain, that doesn't mean that you don't have one. I can't see it but I know that it's there. That is called FAITH. It makes me sad to know that you atheist can't get a grip on what really matters. Their was a big bang alright ! But who do you think lit the match !!

I have the same beliefs that you do...only I really don't know what happens to us when we die. Do we fall into some sort dream state that religious people think is "heaven" or "hell" before our brain shuts off completely?
