I think I should be able to have you arrested for a hate crime if you call me fat what do you think?

i think that if you truly HATE somebody for being fat and try to hurt them physically then perhaps it should be considered a hate crime. Hate crimes are crimes provoked from hate and nothing else whether its the hate of somebody's race, religion, or anything else. However, i don't think that somebody calling you fat should be considered a hate crime. More likely just a rude individual who should keep their opinion to themself. Maybe you are maybe you're not..and i think everyone who answered this with something about you being fat rather than answering the question should have just kept their answers out. In society, yes it is more acceptable to be thin, but "fat" is not necessarily a bad thing. Granted those who are obese should lose weight to be healthier, but a few extra pounds is in no way a crime.

I think you're overreacting, how many times have you said in the past the same cruel words to another person? Maybe more that you can remember, but you have two choices whenever someone call you fat, either you forget it ( Because it's the healthier reason ) or you get more bitterness to your life by remembering those words, even though you get the person arrested.

Maybe someone could tell someone they were FAT because they are worried they are going to have a heart attack and fall over.
I don't know if that would be considered a hate crime. Sounds more like something a child would call someone.

I truly understand this question. I used to weigh 400lbs. Even some of the answers already posted here show the level of ignorance and lack of acceptance towards fat people. I had people spit at me, yell at me in public places, and even felt it was okay to take thier children up to me saying, "Do you want to look like this?!"

Oh...........and all these people who say they tell you for your own good, or it is because they are worried about your health are full of BS! People who are fat are not always over-eaters. Some, ( whether you believe it or not), are pre-genitically pre-disposed, or slow-metabolismed, or even eat because they are socially such a pariah, that it is the only comfort they know!

I had major gastric by-pass surgery, and guess what.......I am still a loving, beautiful human being. It is so disheartening and sick that being creul to fat people is an acceptable prejudice!

Hate crime laws are for the benefit of protected classes. Protected classes are minorities against whom discrimination is used as a weapon. Fat is not a protected class. And, in the US, it's hardly even a minority.

Besides, a hate crime is a crime of violence, not calling names.

I think that question is a good example of what is wrong with the U.S.

Everybody wants to be thin skinned and never have anything bad said about them.

I think if your fat your fat and if someone says something about it. get mad or get skinny. but that is far from a hate crime

I think that would violate freedom of speach. Besides being fat is unhealthy and it might be in your interest if someone told you how it is.
