A lot of it is laziness, like all the homework questions. They may get the answers but will forget them shortly. I read some of the answers to questions I know nothing about and would never have thought of asking because it's fun to learn new things. Sometimes people want an opinion about something that is bothering them that they feel uncomfortable asking their friends about. Some of it is so vulgar that I monitor my grand kids when they are on answers because of the bad language and sexual innuendos,

HONESTLY I think it's a great resource. If you have been searching everywhere for an answer to a question and cannot find the answer (which nowadays is highly doubtful over the internet) then you can post your question and millions of people see your question and if they cannot answer it they can at least point you in the right direction. Some times when you do searches it takes you to completely bogus sites that have absolutely nothing to do with what you are looking for, so this helps a lot.

I think it's a wonderful way for people to help other people. It makes those answering the question feel like they've been useful and those asking the question feel like someone cares enough to listen. It gives people a chance to interact with other people. Also, I've learned a lot by answering questions, for instance, do you know what the indentation at the bottom of the wine bottle is called? I didn't until someone asked the question!!

Yes true, many questions can be answered on our own, but I've answered many questions that is more difficult to have answered, they are questions of opinion and thought something thats hard to find by just doing a search. Some questions are also ones asking for advice that they may feel embarassed about.

of course they can
people are just lazy
but it is nice to have other peoples advice/opinions. also, some people may not know how to search some of the things.
personally i love yahoo! answers. i can get where to go to find the answers, and the opinion of someone who had experienced it.
i think whoever invented deserves a big reward, even if people use it because they are lazy.

I think it is simply another form of forum centered around open questions. This is good for two reasons. It allows open discussions and debates and does something no other site really does.

It gets completely different age groups talking together.

The questions can be frivolous. I find myself searching for intelligent or thought provoking questions. A lot of Americans, I think that's the problem. Sorry Americans!

WOW !!! just think about it though, You can sit back and ask the whole world a question.,...any question. and answering? How often in life can you give your best whole hearted thoughtout answer without a single interuption. Ponderous isn't it?
