Jack Johnson is probably youre best bet. his guitar sounds are acoustic and sound pure. coldplay is another good choice. they are a bit more played on the radio. they are laid back and soulfull, but with electronics on their guitars and keyboards. The Goo Goo Dolls would also be a good way to go. listen to Stay With You. Listen to that song and u'll feel inspired. the lostprophets are a goood band too. a cd collection u'll probably like in the Spiderman 2 soundtrack. all of the songs on there aren't too hardcore, and they sound outstanding. that cd made a couple of bands huge. u might be able to try oasis. also Smile Empty Soul has a couple of good ones. and of course, u can't forget U2.

Try The Hush Sound, Straylight Run, Barenaked Ladies, or Franz Ferdinand. They all seem pretty mellow to me.
happy hunting!
