Most that I've seen will trade in a used book for 1/4 its cover price, and will sell used books for 1/2 their cover price. The places that do pay cash, don't pay much.

If you donate them to your local homeless shelter, library booksale, or other non-profit, you can take a tax deduction for the full current worth of the books (which is more than you'd get paid by a used bookstore!), which is probably worth more to you anyway.

The $1 amount is about right for Half-Price Books. I just took in about 20 books, about 5 of which were hardcover bought this year and got $18.00 for the lot.

Most book stores prefer to trade rather than buy. If they do buy, it is not for very much. I believe you might do better by posting an ad or having a yard sale.

Not much. It depends on their inventory and what's selling.

A better idea might be to donate them to the public library. Good service and good tax deduction.

They charge about $3.00 for a book that would cost $5.00-$7.00 at a new books bookstore.
