Israel not only has the right, but the duty, to protect itself against barbaric terrorists that are killing innocent civilians almost every day. Israel must carry out airstrikes, and whatever else is necessary to insure its very survival. If, on the rare occasions that innocents are hurt as a result of these actions, that's only because these barbarians use innocent civilians as a shield for their cowardly actions, while they purposely target innocent Israeli women and children!!

First let me say that I am not Jewish, just someone who tries to follow the news. As for airstrikes I have nothing but respect for Israel for their policy of retribution for acts comitted against their people. Yes sometimes innocents are killed in the strikes but so are the everyday people riding on a bus, eating a meal at a favorite restaurant, shopping at the market, you get my point. They (the Palestinians and Israelies) have been engaged in conflict for so long I cannot even think of how to resolve the conflict. Personally I think Israel should give the Palestinians their state and make a concerted effort to remove current settlements and stop new ones.

As for Gaza becoming a breeding ground, no, it has always been one.

Israel has always taken a hard stand toward the Palestinians when it comes to acts of terrorism or acts of aggression toward Israelis. The kidnapping of one of it's soldiers was of course going to be followed by a show of force on Israel's part. The Palestinians had to know that was going to be the recourse Israel was going to have to take given what has almost always occurred in the past.

I don't believe that the Gaza has become a breeding ground for terrorists because it already has been fertile ground for terrorist acts for decades. When one nation has a perception that another nation has invaded their sacred holy land there will always be members of that society that will strike out on their own towards the offending nation. Whether the government approves or not does not factor into what these individuals will set out to do. Even if a peace or truce is being worked out by the governments, extremist factions will still go about doing what they have done for years.

I am going to start off and say that I am Muslim so I admit I may have some bias. However, I believe that Palestinians have no right to kidnap people in an effort to get their prisoners free. But at the same time, Israel has no right to cut the power to all of Gaza and make everybodys lives miserable. The way I see it, the Palestinians have taken hostage of one person and the Israeli army has taken the entire Gaza hostage...neither is right. Hamas needs to fricken accept Israels exsistence as a country especially when they dont even have a military to speak of. And Israel needs to stop building stupid settlements and give the Palestinians their own state in Gaza the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The holy sites need to be shared as I am sure God doesnt want them to be the center of violence in his name. Muslims and Jews worship the same God why sholud we fight over him???

Gaza has not only become a breeding ground for terrorists but also shame on the humankind. Try to live in Gaza for a month and share your experience in this forum.

I am not sympathizing with anybody in particular or promoting any cause, but speaking from our experience as we know what happens to the people when the country gets invaded or occupied.

So, please try not to be judgmental and blame a population or place already undergoing misery. It may tantamount to the adage of ‘adding insult to injury’.

Let us hope that good senses prevail on the leadership of both Palestine and Israel and people in that part of the world can live stress free lives.

I sure don't think the Middle East is less of a breeding ground for terrorists than it was in the past. But will the bombing really resolve the issues and put terrorists out of business? Or is it just to appease the Israel population that the government is doing something? Perhaps slow down terrorists in the process.

The better questionis how to put the terrorists out of business? How to deny them the cause that they fight for?

The entire middle east is a breeding ground for terrorists, and has been for a longtime. I think the Israelis should pound them to dust until either the captive is released, or his remains are returned. Honestly, I think he's dead already, but I hope I am wrong.

Everytime Hamas pulls a stunt like this Israel should pound the hell out of them for it. They are a terrorist organization, and should be treated as such. Now that they are into the government it is harder for them to hide. Bad mistake for them to get into government.

I am Jewish and I must admit I am ashamed of the Jews who responded so callously to human death and suffering. The air strike is a part of a very ineffectual program to exact vengeance .It makes the same sense as bombing an entire neighborhood because a criminal lives there. The perpetrator often escapes while Israel creates the next generation of fighters. It is a vicious cycle. As far as Gaza goes,it is a slum. There is injustice and no economy, obviously a good place for extremist movements.

Gaza is an Islamic terror stronghold, with a whole bunch of different terror gangs fighting each other for control.

Attacks against Israel, such as rockets launched at Israeli towns, come out of Gaza every single day.

Israel needs to drive the enemy population out of there.

That's the only reason the so called "Palestinians" (c'mon! give me a break! they are Arabs) wanted Gaza so they could get even closer to annihilate Israel. There is no use trying to make peace with a murderous people who are hell-bent on the complete and total destruction of the Israeli people. As far as I'm concerned, the IDF (Israeli Defense Force) can shoot 'em up as much as they want to and need to with no apology. And the rest of us should stand behind them with our full support.
