Use of drugs that involve sharing of needles and sneezing.
OK I lied about sneezing.
You will not contract HIV from your friend unless you are engaging in Sex and exchanging needles with him/her.
You can hold hands, hug, kiss, not heavy making out although that has been found non transmittable.
Just be aware of your friend and treat him/her no different-if an injury happens while you are together such as falling or car accident, do what you can in your power to assist without coming gin contact of blood-and call for assistance- you do not have to tell paramedics or any other emergency staff that your friend is HIV+ they already have been trained and have protocol for dealing with situations.
Your friend is no different than you or I, just that they are carrying a virus that is contracted only through unsafe behavior. Not casual day to day activity. They can live and sustain a very long full healthy life provided they take care of themselves and take medications when necessary
The best thing you can do for yourself and your friend is become knowledgeable on HIV- I have provided some links that I found for you, that may give you some insight. Part of helping i the prevention of the spread of HIV is knowledge.

HIV is only passed through blood, semen, and vaginal fluid. The only methods of contracting HIV are through sex with an infected person, or sharing needles/syringes with an infected person.
Stay away from those things, and you'll be fine.
Also, you may want to pay closer attention in Health class. This is very basic information, and is necessary knowledge these days. Clueless folks such as yourself make life much more difficult and annoying for those around you, whether or not they have HIV/AIDS.

you would have to exchange a hell of a lot of body fluid to get hiv. or if you have an open cut and they have an open cut and the blood gets into your cut. don't stress, just ask your friend about it in a gentle concerned tone, let them know that you just are interested. people with hiv know there stuff well

You cannot get HIV/AIDS from casual contact, or kissing or hugging, or tears. You get it through sex or blood.
So unless you have sex with your friend, or you share a needle, or their blood comes in contact with an open wound on you, you won't get it.

Like they could be sharing needles...like @ a tattoo artist they could use a needle on someone who has aids and then use it again and they just passed on the aids w/o knowing it...so basically unsterilized needles

you actually can get it by kissing. I forgot what it's called but it's a type of HIV in and around your mouth, and if you kiss someone who has it, you can get it too.
