You can not get HIV from casual contact. You would have to get infected blood from your friend into your eyes, nose or a cut on your body. HIV is much harder to spread than other diseases like hepatitis. You can't get it from sharing a straw or drink or food, or using the same toilet. Do some research on it. Knowledge is power.

Don't abandon your friend. The awkwardness will fade very quickly. Just hang in there.

No, you can't get HIV by hanging around them. You can by sharing blood products (needles, etc) or sharing bodily fluids with an infected person. You need to take precautions if your friend has a nosebleed or otherwise has "bodily issues" if you're around. The below will help. Keep being their friend. They need one now more than ever.

Well, sex is the major one, but also the sharing in needles will also get you aids, and no you cant get aids by just haning out with them, it has to be by blood, that was another one, like if u can a cut, and they licked it or something like that, but think about what the person is going through right now, and talk with them to see, and also consult a doctor, just to be sure, but thats all i can think of.

the only way to get HIV which can develop into AIDS is through transfer of blood or sexual fluids you can not get it from saliva only through cuts and those cuts coming in contact with infected blood, semen, and sometimes but rarely vaginal fluid

it is not the black plague so you can hang out with your friend and unless you guys are doing blood transfers or having unsafe sex then you will be fine.

Good News!! You can not get HIV just by hanging out, hugging your friend. HIv is only spread by body fluid such as blood, semen ,pus etc. so dont worry , you're fine.

you're noticeably probability-free merely putting with your buddy and the in person-friendly words way HIV will be transmitted except sex is Sharing needles or blood transfusion(almost next to nil on transfusion in recent times) Or blood, seemen direct contact with your mucus mebranes and specially in the adventure that they have got tears. provided are web content for to study.

Don't let yourself be exposed to their blood in any way and you're pretty much safe.

And by exposed I mean...don't get their blood in your eyes or mouth...or any other orphus.
