When you have cholerstrol and fats and sugars, they gather up in the heart as plaque and start clogging up the arteries. So when the blood tries to get thru, it needs to be at a higher pressure in order to get thru the artery. More plaque, the higher the blood pressure (also known as hypertension).

There are many answers that you can find, far more than I can think of here. Diet and the effect that certain foods have on your body can effect it. Smoking and stress can also effect your blood pressure. Then some diseases of the heart or arteries can have a profound effect upon your blood pressure. Drugs that you take or other substances you put into your body have effects you may not realize. Last pain can also have an effect on your blood pressure as well as certain activities. As I said there are so many things it can scare you to think about life but then as you become aware of the factors that most effect you then you are more able to control it. Just concentrate on the things that you have control over, like diet, rather than the things you don't have control over such as certain diseases. The following will surely cause your blood pressure to become elevated: stress, high protein diet, sweets, overweight, family history of hypertension, high cholesterol, negative feelings hidden emotions - unwanted, unacknowledged, repressed feelings. Dietary changes, nutritional supplements, exercise, stress control can help to control high blood pressure. However, if your blood pressure is 160/100 or higher, you may need pressure-lowering drugs and natural remedies; have your blood pressure checked regularly and consult a physician.

Although experts say that they do not know the exact cause, high blood pressure is closely associated with obesity, and a low sodium to potassium intake. Maintaining a healthy body weight, exercising regularly and eating foods with a high potassium to sodium ratio will allow for someone to have healthy blood pressure. Eat things such as bananas, carrots, apples, oranges and potatoes.

Stress. Pain can also increase your blood pressure. I know this from experience. I was having some female problems and every time my pressure got checked it was high and the Doc told me that if you have pain and even if you may not feel well it can cause a rise in your pressure.

All sorts of things. The difference is whether or not the blood pressure stays elevated. Too much salt in your diet, bad arteries, break down in your heart muscles, heredity etc. Go to WebMD there you should get your answer.

That babe down there at the end of the bar. Whew, I'm sweating. Of course when she accidentally saw me for 1/100th second, off in the distance behind the 30 other men, her blood pressure sank to an all time low. Happens every time.

Any stimulus that causes your adrenal glands to produce adrenaline, which in turn raise your heart rate, causes your blood pressure to rise. Hyperhydration can intensify blood pressure rise.
