There certainly are some teachers who love the job so much they would do it for free - if they were already financially independent.
Unfortunately, less than 1% of all people who would ever TRY to be a teacher have the means to support themselves without being paid to work. The sad reality of our society is that money has become the base of exchange, and even teachers need money to pay even their minimum bills. Did you know that in the 5 bouroughs of New York City, the salary a teacher is paid is so low that a full-time teacher still qualifies for welfare? Same might possibly be true in Los Angeles, and many other big cities.
Isn't it sad that we - as a society - value teachers so poorly that this question would even be asked, but people who never tried to do anything well other than play sports become millionaires in their first year out of college?

I think it depends on the person. I am a teacher myself and I just couldnt afford to teach without getting paid, but I also dont complain about the lack of money or getting raises, or the bonuses that some teachers do. There ar e some teachers who are already doing work without getting paid for it. I know that there are days when I am there until 5pm getting ready for the next day, or I go in an hour early, I also call and check up on my students, when they are absent or they look as if something is really bothering them. There are some teachers at the school where I work, who just show up when they are supposed to and as soon as the bell ring, they leave. They are also the ones who complain about the pay, the conditions, and who probably would not work if they were not getting paid.

Golly gee, I'm a teacher and I'm wondering how I'd pay my bills if I didn't get paid. Yes, I LOVE teaching, but the paycheck is a reality if I want to eat and have a roof over my head. I also have two children to provide for. Would your parents go to work each day if they didn't get paid for it? I think they just want the money.

A few will. Some of the people who teach don't do it for the money because teachers don't get paid a lot but they still needthe money to survive. if teachers didn't get paid there would still be a few who would teach. we have lots of people who go all over the world to teach without getting paid.

Of course a teacher would teach without getting paid for it. They all do it for the sheer joy of seeing a child like you grow intellectually. You are the person teachers point to when asked this question, and they answer: "that child there, see him? He is my 'salary'. i do it for him and for him alone."

THAT depends partly upon *the atmosphere* within the class / school (campus) or district.
I have mentored in classroom-settings where EVERYTHING was [structured] and in classes where the curriculumn was RAMPANT!
Each extreme had it PRO's and CON's.
*The success* / SATISFACTION upon which course / TEACHER "got the better bucks" depended entirely upon HOW the teacher applied and shared their knowledge in the classroom setting.
Other "TEACHERS" who (as I noticed) "couldn't care any more"; who were just *there* (for tenure) also got the same "glories" at the end of the school year.
*-The end result being to be in the right place with the right skills to the right mindset of students.

yes, teachers will teach even though they dont receive salary in such a way that teachers dont have only the knowledge to impart to their learners but as well as they have the heart what I mean is they are willing to teach though they dont have salary to breceive. In other words they are a person for others.

Will YOU work without pay? How will you eat? Where will you sleep?
Teaching is a full-time job. Teachers already accept half the pay that other professions with similar training and demands get.
