Its not really, thats why. The media hypes it up, and the kids go wild. Its their hormones, you see. Adult Americans are not hung up about sex as much as the kids, with the exeption of gay americans. For Gay people, their entire life revolves around sex. It who they are, and what the identify with. For the rest of us, we are bombarded with it all the time, but we for the most part, take it in stride. It doesnt rule our lives, but we enjoy it.
I see other cultures as being worse. You doubt it? Population growth is a good indication of how cultures really view sex. Which cultures are expanding at a phenominal rate? Muslims, China, India, and Mexicans.
Hey, it takes sex to make babies, and they sure are pushing them puppies out. And you say sex is important to who?

I think a loving and special relationship is expressed in many ways, and one of those ways is through a good sexual relationship. The T.V. and magazines and tons of other places are flooded with a sexual slant to attract both men and women to buy the product, or think that they will be somehow better off if they wear, wash, drive, eat, or play the same as the advertisement.... We all want to look good, and we tend to believe the hype. The truth is we are what we are and we should be loved for that, and not need all the glamor that the ads try to pitch at us. You're smart to ask an intelligent question, and I thank you for the chance to answer. Have a great night.

It's easier to focus on sex than to focus on the more important issues that are really plaguing our society. It's takes a lot of hard work and elbow grease to roll up our sleeves and tackle our society's problems. People would rather focus on sex because it's more fun and easier to "fix". Personally, I think American society has a very unhealthy and depraved attitude towards sex.

Because sex sells and ALL clothing/fashion, television, automobile, food/beverage, etc. businesses benefit from it. By taking advantage of this weakness you become their slave, always wanting more and wanting to get the most from the other gender. The corporations want your money dude!
I don't even know how it is benefitting us average people; probably making everyone whores without self-esteem.

I'm assuming most people have heard of the phrase "sex sales", and its true everyone loves sex and that is what most of our culture talks about and like seeing on TV and certain kind of ways.

Because alot of American's have made it their priority when in fact sex is actually mostly initiated in their minds. That is where it first finds stimulation. Perhaps it is a false interpretation by a preminately small minority of people who only think they are a larger group.

Todays culture is a "ME" first culture. Most people do not care what they are doing to future generations, they just want to do what ever they want, and when it goes wrong they will blame someone else. In a culture that will not let children pray or carry their Bible in school nothing is "wrong".

You are mistaken in your assumption. Sex has ALWAYS been important in American, and all other, cultures. And always will be. Do some research and you will see this is true.

Not as important as in the 70s. But it is maybe because people have loosen up their traditional and family morals. they thought it's cool, but actually, very doubtful and damning.
