Go down your screen and on the taskbar (the thing that has your open programs and star menu) and move your mouse to the right. There should be a clock with a bunch of little icons. IF you don't see a little speaker but you see an arrow, click the arrow to open it to more icons. Find the volume one, the little speaker. Double click to open. Make sure the volumes are turned up and that the mute boxes are not checked.

If you are using windows xp, it has a wonderful utility called sound troubleshooter, to access it follow this:
1. Click Start, and then click Help and Support.
2. Under Pick a Help Topic, click Fixing a problem.
3. In the left pane, click Games, sound, and video problems.
4. In the right pane, click Sound Troubleshooter.
