I spend alot of time in Pheonix on business and visiting good friends, I have traveled over most of the state and the nicest place I have found to date is Sedona, the Red Rock canyons and mountains are beatiful. Sedona is also very close to Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon, The weather in Flagstaff is very similar to the weather in Pennsylvania they get snow in the winter, and hot in the summer. Sedona on the other hand is warmer in the winter but being close to the mountains you never know. Pheonix on the other hand is just plain HOT! In the winter it varies mostly in the seventy's but in the summer I was there two weeks ago and the coolest day was 106 degrees. If you like it hot thats where you want to be.

Tempe - It's small and it's mostly a college city since ASU is located there. But, you can get to almost anywhere (Chandler, Mesa, Phoenix, Scottsdale) within 15 to 20 minutes.
Scottsdale is nice too, but it is kind of pricey, especially with the property costs rising for houses.
Cities and towns up north (Sedona, Flagstaff, Prescott, Prescott Valley) are quite nice. Everything west of that is pretty much desert.

I lived in the east valley for almost 30 years (was born there) and just recently (last year) moved to PA. I loved it out there but was getting bored. It's hot all the time (shorts on xmas day), everything's brown and growing grass in your yard is a challenge unless you pay someone to do it. It's fast paced out there and everything's new. And be prepared to pay alot for a house. I sold my house last year for almost DOUBLE than what I paid for it. The valley's nice but if/when the time comes and I move back home, I'll be living up "north" in AZ.... Whatever you choose, good luck!

We live near Sedona, and it is pretty but really expensive. Also, make sure you have a job first. Although, employment is usually in the hospitality industry. But nurses and teachers are always in demand.

scottsdale is a really nice place to live but it is expensive. It is also really hott here in the summer but in the winter it is perfect. In the woods like prescott or flagstaff it snows. its a really cool place to live, there is also a lot of night life down town. idk! good luck deciding!
