great question, and i think there's lots of people asking the same thing these days. i believe that the children interfere in the normal and customary period of courtship, when two people get to know each other.
and the children may do it, subconsiously, with that intent.

Why would any man want to raise another man's children????? It makes no sense evolutionarily. No male animal raises the offspring of another male. In fact, lions kill the babies of other males. Stallions run off the babies of other stallions. Female apes breed with every male in the troup, and make sure every male is watching. In this manner, no male is sure if he is the father, so he doesn't kill her offspring. People are just like critters----there is no reason a foster parent should show interest in another sire's child. Works for critters, is the same for humans -- as any psychologist.... So to answer your question, most men figure they can find females who don't already have children. To them, it is a much preferred situation. And, as a female, no way would I have dated a guy who had major custody of his kids. Didn't wish to be a mom to some other woman's children...... works both ways. Being a single parent, particulary female, is just about the worst financial and time demanding situation a lady can be in..... sorry...

it depends if the single parent is the HI or SHE it does not say in the question... but to me it will be two different things!
Men with kids or single men are not the same at all. With exceptions of course. And they behave is not the same.
What the man with kids wants is not as the single one wants even thought both wants to have fun as well ; at the same time as continuing having a life. Who wasn't in these days. But again...of course... Mother is only one and every body knows that.

You didnt find the right guy.Kids are not scary.Alot of men are scared because most men get burnt, when they have kids the wife takes them for everything they got and i think thats why men act and do the things they do,the trust is gone these days and its sad how we fight over our kids and what belongs to who and so on.When you meet the right guy he will be the guy who loves children his or not and hasnt been burned from another.

I have dated a few women with kids and to tell the truth I have no clue why some guys are like that. I have heard guys say they don't want someone elses kids so I ask then why date the woman? You should see the look. With me the kids were a part of the whole picture. But please never stay with a guy who will not accept your kids. Dating is different, You can date guys who don't want kids, it is only a date and if they are honest about it then it is just a date. If you are looking to settle down then that is a different story. The guy should know by that time you and your kids are the whole picture. Your kids come first.

I guess they assume that you are looking for someone to raise your kids, depend on them, etc. It is insulting to say the least. A single mother is probably the most independent person in existence. She should be entitled to love someone and have that someone love her in return just like anyone else. I agree with the other poster, you should keep looking and look in the right places, not all men think this way and you can find a decent guy to share all of your life with.

Most men don't want a ready made family. He also knows that the kids will come before him in the relationship.
Not to mention, some of these guys are having to pay child support for kids that are not even theres. Some judge may see them as father figures after a period of time and order them to pay support. What a bunch of crap !

You know..there are no real men left in the world today. They look at children as a burden, thats all there is to it. The men of today really would rather be a family without kids. The responsibilty is too much of a burden for them. My advise is ..if you find a man who is willing to take on the responsibility, stick with him..ok?
Thats a sign of a man who wont mind the responsibility.

Well mainly because men are afraid of what a mom with kids might wanna do, they might be afraid of the mom to try and lure them into a marrage that they dont want to be in or something to that effect, is one answer, another is probably cause you allready have had sex, they are not interested because alot of straight male guys are only after virgins.

Doesnt always work that way. My sweetheart is a better dad to my kids than their own father! They were young when we hooked up (7 & 10). He was a little leary about being around kids again because his kids were nearly grown. He has been a good influence on them and attends all of their sporting events that he possibly can. He even takes them places that their dad should be taking them but doesnt.

Not all men all scared off. My husband helped me raise my 3 small children. It depends on the man and if he can tolerate kids and how much he loves you.
