Its called "neo-conservativism." Paleo-conservativism was actually for small government and small government spending. Neo-conservativism is the philosophy of a government active in private and international affairs with an ultimately socially conservative goal. Conservatives today are up in arms about the rampant spending of the federal government, but that has, since the beginning, been the obvious endpoint of a government focused on spreading democracy abroad and government imposed morality at home.

People can't honestly claim that they thought fighting wars, making gay marriage an issue of govenrment intervention, making the teaching of evolution an issue of government interest, etc wasn;t going to make the federal government a larger, more intrusive entity.

You get what you vote for. Conservativism has not been for small government since before Reagan's time.

Anyone who thinks Republicans have anything to do with conservatism just doesn't understand the party of Theodore Roosevelt. He and Lincoln would have thrown these bastards out of the party a long time ago.

Yep. And I'm indepent leaning toward conservative and it just pisses me off. I know war, but this is nuts. Like I said I'm indepedent, so I think I will flip my votes. That'll teach em. lol.

I wasn't crazy about Clinton, but at least he got this right.

I'm glad I don't run my business like this.

Nothing. It is one of the reasons I am disappointed in the GOP congress and why I wouldn't be surpried to see the GOP majority go down in flames this fall.

I agree with Thylawyer. Both parties are far left of JFK's inaugural speech. Ask not what your country can do for you ask what you can do for your country. Both parties are buying people's votes with others money.

Conservatives are all failed businessmen. Is it really that hard to come to the conclusion that they don't understand money?
