I think they need to be deported from our United States to Iraq. They are enjoying their freedoms from all the dead soldiers of the past and they are obviously uneducated idiots and don't know why they are allowed to have the right of free speech. But free speech doesn't include anything about being cold, rude, and mean to the family of a person who has died from fighting for our country. I have no tolerance for those who don't appreciate our freedoms that have been won by millions of dead soldiers.

For any military member, the answer is simple: I took an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States. That includes the Bill of Rights.

I am offended by the speech of such people. I am also offended by the speech of Klan, the vigilantes on our southern border, Faux News, Rev. Al Sharpton, and about every third statement by the POTUS. But I served for 26 years (two wars) in order that people have the right to express themselves whether or not I am personally offended.

Regrettably, bad taste is not a crime. Neither is confusing the warrior with the war. These people, who form the unacceptable face of an emerging power in the United States, are no better than the people who shot into the housing area at various USAF bases during the 60's and 70's in order to express their disapproval of that war. Nor are they different than the people who lined sidewalks a few years earlier to scream filth at children of color who dared to attend the same school as white children.

Having said that, they are protected by the doctrine of free speech, and, assuming they commit no physical act, by the right of peaceable assembly.

The Bill of Rights becomes invalid when we use it to defend only those things of which we approve.

Cheers

P.S. Can't resist a quote from a colleague "I'd like to be a Conservative, but I would rather remain a Christian."

A funeral is not a proper place to voice your opinion to the family of the deceased soldier. Show some respect take your protest to a public forum away from grieving family and friends. A truly religious person would have the common decency to do no less. What would they expect if it was a member of their family being buried? The world would be a much better place if only people would take the time to walk in the other persons path and see things from another perspective. No one is denying a persons right to protest just do it tastefully.

If they were REAL Christians, they would show respect for the deceased and their family. This is nothing more than a lame attempt to gain media attention. These people of emotional terrorists in their own right.

I hope all our troops come home soon. I fully support the military and the soldiers, but do not support Bush's decision. No weapons of mass destruction and we destablized a country. Sure he was a dictator, but how many people are going to die in random violence? Have we really saved anyone or caused more deaths? But I will not protest the war. I would instead choose to protest the congregation who is committing these acts of terrorism to the families of the deceased. Don't these people have lives of their own? Jobs? Families?

Why not feed the poor or protect children? At least protest to the government, not the victims of the government's actions. How dumb are they? Like going to a rape victim's house to protest a rapist being set free. Go to the rapist's home and get the attention of the media.

They were here in my area a month ago doing just the same thing. We had a large group of bikers [you know, the ones you don't think you want to meet in a dark alley?] who came and set themselves between the protesters and those attending the funeral.. they kept the peace and they honored the fallen soldier with their attendance, their demeanor and the way they stood with great respect as the funeral procession passed by.
ANYONE who goes to a funeral for ANYTHING other than to honor that person dishonors not only that person and the sacrifice they made, but they make a mockery of their so-called religion. Christ would NOT approve of their tactics, I am quite certain.

As a Veteran of the Desert Storm Era i think it is completely wrong for them to do that i have had to Barrie soldiers and no one forces you anymore to go into the service they chose to serve there country proud and i bet they have no regrets what so ever, i like the protesters trying to speak out but where were they when 9/11 hit. I know they have there rights to but protesting at a Soldiers Funeral should ot be one of them.

I think that it is a real shame that the ones that gave these people the right to speak freely are the ones that they are dishonoring. If it wasn't for the soldiers that they say they hate they would not be able to speak in public or even claim that they are from a "church". The GOD that I worship will be the judge and I'm sure that the soldiers will hear HIS praises and not this so called "church".

I think that is horrible. Even after what happened at 911 I still would not say something so horrible. I mean americans kill other americans all the time. But I do hold more distaste for the ones holding them signs. They are just doing what they are told by their superiors! Much like most countries with armies or whatever. My heart goes out to all the wounded and dead soldiers!

These are the scum of the earth. How would you feel if this was your brother, father or husband? It doesn't matter how you feel about the war, respecting and honoring the deceased is something that shoudl be in human nature. You can disagree with the war and still support the troops. Hell, how many of them do you think want to be over here in the first place? This is reminicent of Vietman, spitting on soliders when they arrived home. These people need to be arrested for these acts of inhumanity. The worst part is that most of these people doing this are from churches, "humanity groups" and whatnot. F&%$ them!!!

Oh they're bastards for sure. But we absolutely can't jail them for this. They're exercising the freedom those soldiers died to protect.

It amazes me that these people think that their protests will do anything. They are just making themselves feel good. And the way they're doing it shows how sick they are.

I hope they become pariahs. That's all you can really do. I

I have heard that when they show up some truck drivers have "broken down" in between them and the funeral. Kudos to those guys I just hope "counter" protests don't escalate. The soldiers deserve not to have that kind of violence done in their name.

I think those protesters should be jailed. I was a soldier and now I want back in. If they knew what soldier go through they would not be protesting. If they are against the war they should protest in Washington not at a soldiers funeral!!
