If you have any devices connected to your USB or Firewire ports (printer, scanner, external hard drive, etc.) disconnect them all.
Once you get to your desktop and can access the start button, do a disk clean up and defrag (start > programs > accessories > system tools > disk cleanup then after it finishes running, defrag.)
Make sure you run a current antivirus and antispyware.
Now that you've got a cleaner system, see if the startup problem has been fixed. If it has, great. Plug your devices back in, one at a time. Try starting the computer after each device is plugged in. If the startup problem returns, you've isolated the cause.
But if you've cleaned the system and the startup problem is still there, try reinstalling your operating system. And if that doesn't help, you might have a bigger problem with the motherboard, the BIOS, etc. In which case you might have to go to your computer manufacturer's support site to download the latest drivers or get some one on one tech help.

1 hour? Wow what a very2 long time to use a computer hehehe.
1. Please check your hardisk spin voice. Is there anything strange with your hardisk spin voice? I'm afraid that your hardisk probably has a defect area.
2. Please check using Anti Virus program, such as Norton or McAfee, because your slow performance can be caused by the worm, virus, trojan or spyware. Make sure u are using the latest virus definition.
3. After u can sucefully logged-in to your computer, please open the registry Start | Run and type regedit. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | Software | Microsoft | Windows | Current Version | Run and preview all of the list there. Any something strange? That list is all program that run on the startup of your Windows.
Thanks.

Click Start. Click Run. Type in: msconfig. Click the Startup tab. Put a check mark in all of the unneeded programs. Click OK. After the computer restarts a window will open check the box and click OK. Your problem is that you have too many program auto starting when you start Windows.
Unless you know exactly what you are doing, do not mess with the registry! You can ruin your system.

if your computer is a newer computer and running windows xp then I suggest checking what is running in your system tray. You can use a program called msconfig to do this. (start - run - type in "msconfig" ).
Also run a sypware program like Spybot Search and Destroy or Windows Defender and check for any spyware.
You can also and should run a virus scanner like Avast.
I hope this helps.
Also another question is how much ram does your computer have. Windows XP likes to see at least 256 meg of system ram.

Will need more information to give you an educated answer.
Off the top of my head, it sounds as though you should consider doing a re-install of your operating system. I'm going to guess that you're running Microsoft Windows.
If so, even the professional Microsoft IT support person will tell you that it is recommended that you re-install Microsoft Windows from time to time.
I'd recommend you consider leaving Microsoft Windows behind and look at Linux alternatives.

run antivirus software, run spyware removal software, run security software, clean up your files, run chkdsk, and defragment, and if you have got too much spyware and viruses on it, just format it and start over
