I plan to buy a PDA-style phone soon and have narrowed my choice to between the RIM Blackberry or Microsoft's Windows Mobile platforms. I mainly want to use my device to keep up-to-date with my calendar items and read and respond to email, but having a device that I could occasionally do other things too wouldn't hurt. I'm also not a fan of Palm's OS and I don't think their platform is going to be around much longer. Thanks!

I never tried a Blackberry because there was no touch screen. I liked Palm's interface and OS stability. I didn't like the way palm translated some windows file types. If you want to open Microsoft Office Files then I would go with Mobile Windows. Some of the new windows PDA phones don't have touch screens which to me makes it more difficult to do things on the PDA.

I have ended up with a Mobile Windows PDA. If you use Outlook for e-mail and calendar then you are all set. If you use Lotus Notes you'll have to get Intellisync, which in my experience works until you update Lotus Notes to the latest version.

Outlook data is interchangeable with Palm or Windows Mobile devices. Blackberry is supposed to be so as well, but a friend of mine has issues with his Blackberry as far as e-mail.

I prefer windows, but disagree with your assessment on the Palm OS, it is going to be around for a long time. While I think it is less elegant than Windows, they are sturdy and cost effective. Plus there are tons of programs and developers dedicated to Palm. If you have limited PDA use a Blackberry is fine. If you are a power user and want to do a great deal of writing or computing, go for a Windows Mobile. These guys love their batteries, so I recommend carrying a spare if you do a lot of phoning and entries on the run.

I have a Blackberry phone.

The strong point of this device is, the battery lasts very long time. I can go 3 days without recharge with some talk time. I also find my blackberry very stable. No crashes or lockups.

You should be aware, this device is NOT multi-media friendly. It does not have a touch screen either. I think, I can say, BB is more business oriented where as palm and MS devices are more consumer oriented.

There aren't as many applications written for BB and most of them are business oriented.

I do not use e-mail or internet browser with this device. I mainly use it as phone, calender, task list, and note pad. I like it very much.

I have a BB 7290 and I really like it. It's a good phone and I love having my e-mail pushed to me. Investigate apps you're interested in before you buy.
