Blemish-To mar or impair by a flaw.

NOUN:

An imperfection that mars or impairs; a flaw or defect.

Either way you look at it your right,...lol The term blemish merely refers to any flaw on any surface or in any state. For example, My credit report is severely blemished.

Although in popular society, when refering to the skin, when most say blemish they are refering to a pimple/zit, a tiny bacterial infection under the outer most epidermis,...with some the acne or blemish actually effect the sweat and sebaceous glands of the dermis causing swollen and cyst like eruptions on the epidermis,... the most severe of these reffered to as acne lesions.

Hope this is the info you were looking for, I might have went a little to far in my explanations but I studied dermatological sciences for a lil while, and I also googled it fer ya',...lol

Hope that helps, Dora

A blemish is a minor imperfection. Normally the imperfection only affects the appearance, not function. However, the term is usually applied in contexts where appearance is seen as a function, such as skin imperfections (acne) or clothing imperfections (stains).

A 'blemish' is really any flaw on the skin. People are usually referring to pimples, but it could also be acne scars, blackheads, freckles, etc.
