I remember, as a child, watching shows about the future and they always predicted that by the year 2001, we'd all have robots to do our tedious daily chores and we'd be traveling in flying cars and monorails. What went wrong?

Interestingly enough, cars with gps type systems, which are a relatively new feature, were actually first predicted in the 50s. And I know that they have had the capabilities of a lot of novel technologies for decades, but never really came to fruition.
