it would make sense seeing how they play in the two biggest baseball markets in the world. and also seeing how they are two of the best teams in the league.

it's an "all star" game, not a "best players" game.
fans dont wanna see the best players, they want to see the biggest stars, stars who are concentrated in the large markets for many reasons.

In the AL voting. In the NL there are 4 Mets out of 8 open positions. Money talks. The BS ends up in Kansas City.

Well since they have some of the best records, it would make sense they have the better players and therefore the most votes.

And since they get so much media coverage it would also make sense.

But ironic? no that's not irony

Not really, they're the two richest teams, so they get the best players. Pretty obvious, I think.
