Mackinac Island itself does not require a ticket, just the ferry boat ride over to it. Shepler's Ferry has a ferry dock on both sides of Mackinac Bridge so you would not have to cross over Big Mac if you didn't want to. If you never went over the bridge, you should try it at least once - it's awesome. Go to http://www.sheplersferry.com/ for some good information on the ferry ride plus you can buy discounted ferry tickets. Have a "Grand" time on Mackinac Island - be prepared to do a LOT of walking. The Grand Hotel is an impressive site, but you can't go close to it unless you are a guest. The carriage tour is worth the money as it takes you all over the island and the driver will give you lots of interesting island facts.

Ferries depart from both sides of the bridge, however, Sheplars depot is on the north side (the bridge doesn't go to the island, it connects lower Michigan and the UP). Mackinac is a lot of fun! Enjoy it!

Here you go. The website for Sheplers:
http://www.sheplersferry.com/

Sheplers departs from both St Igance and Mackinaw City,
so you can get tickets on both sides of the bridge.
Or save time and order tickets on-line.
