I've been trying to relocate my family to Hawaii and have a job that pays decent money when i get there. We are all burnt out on the California "thing" we are tired of the keep up with the jones race and self absorbed people.all of us have discussed and want this, but we are so busypaying other peoples bills and our own we don't have much money to move on. I have submitted numerous resumes to the hawaiian Islands and have had a few hits but nothing solid. I work extremely hard at what I do and consider myself very reliable and loyal. I have two awesome children that I want to bring up in a society where culture and "Ohana" are what life is all about. Can Someone help?!?!

Wow, you sound like our family seven years ago when we relocated from CA to another state... (funny, we're back "home" now, but that's another story)...
With us relocating from CA to out of state (moved 2x) and back to CA (now with a pending relocation back to the Bay Area) - I think I have some handy advice...

If Hawaii is really where you all want to be - I say continue a job search from CA. When you can, take a few days off in the middle of week to visit HI and follow up on SERIOUS job leads.

Someone has to find employment first... then that person can "set up" in HI... at which point you WILL have to take some cut backs on the perks of life to save every penny, because you will be paying bills in two places at that time.

Try try to get a company to pay for some of the move, it helps.

Also consider any other adults in the family to find work in other fields. For my husband, he had the "trade" but I was able to work temp agencies if needed and various other jobs.

One lesson I learned through all this moving is this: (please consider this too)....
"OHANA IS WHERE YOU MAKE IT" whether it be here or Hawaii. The grass isn't always greener... well maybe in Hawaii it is literally lol! But you know what I mean. We moved for the same reasons you stated... but here we are back in Cali.

Keep at it, someone will find a job there.
I wish you the best of luck to move to a place that makes you happy!

I used to live in Hawaii, first off, which Island are you going to? Oahu is the most densly populated island, it is the one with Honolulu and Waikiki on it.
The prices of simple things is OUTRAGES!! Very expensive living there. Make sure you have a job before you move. Also what race are you, may sound funny but it would matter. When I lived there (it may have changed in the last ten years) I was called a n****r and I am caucasion!! the people around where we lived were vary racist, not so everywhere though and I was the ONLY white kid whithen three or four blocks.
Good luck with this, Hawaii is a beautiful place and there are some beautiful people there, just be aware of the area you are moving to.

You're going to have to save for a long time. I would probably invest in some short-term bonds, and place a lump sum into some sort of annuity.
