Withiut a doubt, Paul McCartney. On many songs he is playing a type of harmony. He's incredible. Listen to "Something," the middle eight part. Listen to "Silly Love Songs." Before him, the bass was basically da dum da dum. It lacked in imagination. He is a master of the bass guitar.
