The rabbit doesn't need a nesting box. Nesting boxes are used for rabbits to have babies in. If the rabbit has a place to hide it may be hard to get it out of the cage. Rabbits can sometimes act mean towards a person if they feel they have a spot where they can get that you can't reach them.

It has to be something that the rabbit likes and will use and not be harmed by. Maybe the best thing is the next time you are at the store just go ahead and get the nesting house they have there. If you know what those are made of you could look around your house and see if there is anything suitable.

If you have a flat bottom plastic container, it might work for a day or two. It should also be flexible enough to force through the opening of the cage.
Just try to use an old container, because Mr. bunny is probably going to chew the corners off.
You will not want the bed to be much bigger than he is.

If you have a plastic box about the size of a shoebox, that should do the trick, except a little bigger than 5". Or find a plastic box about the right size.

Carboard boxes really are the best answer. Rabbits also enjoy spending time in untreated wicker baskets.

Just a small blanket or a towel should do fine until you can get out to get the hutch, i have many rabbits and one of my flops actually prefer the blanket to the hutch, and if his blanket gets stolen to get washed he tries to steal your clothes :)
