I have a old Dell PC. Its a Dell OptiPlex GX1

Which Software can I use?

What are you running? Win98 or WinNt? They are two different things. If you have plain Win98 you can upgrade to Win98SE and see a bit better performance. forget WinMe, it was a lousy attempt and your Dell is too old for WinXp. You may be able to run Win2k if you have sufficient ram - you need at least 256. It will run on 128 but will be slow.

Do you know the processor speed, amount of memory and the size of the hard drive? Those would help to determine if the PC can run anything better than Windows 98.

first, you don't have windows98 NT, you have one or the other, there is no such OS.
Second, it depends on all the internal componenets, you need to look at the system requirements for all the OS's and see if yours will support winme or xp, but I would say you would give up performance unless you update all the hardware also, and it would be as cheap or cheaper to just buy a new entry level pc
