This is just something that "irks" me about Americans (granted, I am American, but my mother is British)...the Royal family is still VERY important, and they are still very much a political force within the entire British Commonwealth.
The Queen has the right to wage war on anyone; without the approval of anybody. The Queen has the right to dismantle Parliament at any time; now not the House of Lords...but that's a different story. The Queen, if she does not approve of something, can make it go away with a *snap* of her fingers.
The reigning monarch at this time, has almost as much power as the monarchs of old did...although now there is Parliament that leads the nation down the merry path of Socialism...but for the entire Commonwealth of Britain, the Queen still rules and is Superior...
And, just FYI, Prince William, who will be known as King Arthur (and yes, King Arthur was a real man...anyway) has already stated that he wishes to do away with Parliament...and if that happens, Britain and her Countries will be an Empire again.

The Royal Family still has a powerful influence if not direct power in the politics of the country. Not to mention the wealth. If the holdings of the monarchy was owned by the queen as an individual, she would be one of the top 5 wealthiest people in the world. A recent survey in Britain says that the people, if given a choice would vote to keep the monarchy despite the recent troubled history of the family.

The Queen does have political potential. i'm Canadian, and she or he has potential right here besides. in certainty, the Crown (personified by potential of HM the Queen) is the source of potential, unlike usa, the place the potential comes up from the persons. Her powers are constrained by potential of Parliament, yet except it rather is in specific stated in any different case, she keeps residual powers. I.e., no remember if it is not written down someplace as being diverse, she nonetheless holds the potential. Granted, it is not exercised all that oftentimes, even though the Canadian Parliament advance into prorogued returned, (because it advance into this time final year), something that would purely be down with the potential of the Crown. The Royal kin is wealthy because of the fact they're stable in business enterprise. the charges of being Royal are incredibly greater effective than taxpayers supply her (Canadians purely supply her funds whilst she is right here, as an occasion). they're nicely-enjoyed because of the fact they're "genuine" Royals - nonetheless having potential. i comprehend a princess who lives interior the city of Ottawa in Canada. yet, her beginning u . s . a . now no longer even has a monarchy, and she or he does not use her call in any respect. She is a princess, yet one with none variety of potential in any respect, unlike our very own Royal kin. and that i say "ours" intentionally - HM the Queen, as Queen of Canada, is likewise a Canadian citizen!
